Wholeberry Folk banana split cupcakes

 

Last week in my September Red pawpaw box I received a box of Wholeberry Folk banana split cupcake mix.

To be honest at first I was a little taken back by the amount of detail on the front, back and sides of the box (see below) but with mothers group on today which always means a plate of treats I thought I would use the opportunity to bake these mysterious cupcakes promising to contain less sugar, spelt rather than wheat flour and banana frosting made with real bananas.



Inside the box were two sachets, one containing the cupcake mix and another for the frosting.

The steps to make the batter was straight forward, once all additional ingredients had been added and mixed I had enough batter to half fill twelve patty cases.


Seventeen minutes later which passed by quickly, I used the time to make the frosting I took the cupcakes out of the oven. To my amazement the cupcakes looked perfect, not only did they not require additional baking time which often is the case but they looked moist inside and crunchy on the outside. Perhaps it was the spelt.



After some cooling time I spread the frosting and sampled a cupcake. The cupcake was good, compared to other cupcake mixes the cupcake was light, fluffy and not too sweet. The frosting made from real bananas tasted like surprise surprise, banana, it was nice to eat a cupcake free from artificial colours and flavours.

My weekend and my Next dress

Hi all, I hope you have had a lovely weekend. My weekend was quite busy starting with the Hills District Mum Myer shopping event, dinner with the girls, bubs swimming lesson, lunch with the parents, gardening and a Christening/birthday party followed by another birthday party.

On another note the Next dress which I recently purchased has been a hit, after finding a cute Alannah Hill black bow belt the dress has made an appearance to several functions.

Red pawpaw September box

Here is a peek of September's Red paw paw box. I'm happy with this months box as I can see at least twenty dollars of products. I'm looking forward to burning the Air wick candle, baking the banana split cupcakes and using the Finish dish washing liquid.

No bake Malteser slice


About two weeks ago I stumbled across a yummy looking pin, the Malteser slice. As sad as it sounds I have been thinking of this slice everyday and have been trying to find a reason to make it.

With an invitation to attend a shoe party, yes a shoe party kind of like Tupperware but shoes, I finally had the perfect excuse.

There are many Maltese slice recipes online, I didn't have the exact ingredients or quantities some of the recipes required and had to improvise. Below is my adapted recipe.

Ingredients:

155g Maltesers
150g Marie biscuits
150g Choc ripple biscuits
1 cup Rice bubbles
125g butter
397g tin condensed milk
2 tbsp cocoa
200g white chocolate
1 tbsp copha
1- 2 squares of chocolate

Method:

1. Line a baking tray (25cmx15cm) with baking paper.
2. Chop Maltesers in half and add to a bowl, reserve for later.
3. Crush biscuits into 1-2cm pieces and place in a large bowl along with the rice bubbles.
4. Place butter, condensed milk and cocoa in a small pot and heat until butter has melted.
5. Remove from heat and pour into biscuit/rice bubble bowl, mix until all ingredients have combined.
Note: If the mixture is too runny add more rice bubbles.
6. Press mixture into baking tray.
7. Melt white chocolate and copha.
8. Pour and spread melted chocolate over the top of slice.
9. Press the Maltesers into the white chocolate and finish by grating a square of chocolate over the slice.
10. Place slice in the fridge to set.

The designer markets at the Orange Blossom Festival, Castle Hill


Today the family and I visited the designer markets which were held at the Orange Blossom Festival in Castle Hill.

Set up along Old Northern Road just outside Castle Towers the road had been blocked off to traffic and had been turfed which allowed patrons to enjoy the various events being held within the vicinity over the weekend.

After a quick browse followed by lunch I returned to the stalls and purchased two plain headbands which I can clip hair clips onto, some candle melts and a reusable swim nappy.

I was hoping to find a dress for my daughter to wear to her birthday party, typically because I need to buy her a new dress it is proving difficult to find, I can only hope I will find the perfect dress soon!

Big W party shop



With little miss G's birthday a few months away and a theme in mind I had to check out my local Big W new party store.

What was the pet supply area has turned into a colourful rainbow of balloons of all shapes and sizes, themed party supplies, pinatas and fancy dress costumes.

A little browse quickly turned into a purchase of plastic cutlery, plates, napkins, cups, garland and table cloths when I was told everything was 20% off.

The products are reasonably priced and appear to be good quality. Like other party stores in the area you can purchase balloon bouquets.

Judging by the number of people in the store and the many young families living in the area I'm sure this party store will be around for some time.

Design your own Magnum, Westfield Sydney

When it comes to chocolate and ice cream I have little self control so it was no surprise this afternoon after purchasing a pair of short high waisted shorts from Zara and telling myself the diet starts today that I found myself lining up to design my own magnum.

Over the next eight weeks you will find the magnum stand on level two just outside Gap at Westfield Sydney. For eight dollars you can choose the flavour of your ice cream, the chocolate coating, up to four toppings and the type of chocolate to be drizzled over the top.


The magnum is served in an open rectangular box which catches excess topping.

I designed a vanilla ice cream, milk chocolate magnum topped with dark cookie chunks, vanilla crumble, roasted almonds and coconut flakes, drizzled with white chocolate.

So what is my verdict? Yes it is gimmicky, it's sickly sweet, it's overpriced but I'm glad I can cross it off my food bucket list.

The yeeros shop, Marrickville


I was first introduce the yeeros in Santorini in 2007. I was holidaying with friends and my now husband who at the time had recently proposed, it was a happy time so naturally the word yeeros brings a smile to my face.

For those who aren't familiar with the yeeros it is a moreish warm soft pita wrap filled with charcoal meat and garlic sauce. Just like a kebab it can be messy and one may find sauce dripping down their hands as they savour the moment.

Fast forward seven years a sunny Sunday a flashback of an episode of Food Safari and being within close proximity to Marrickville I find myself outside The Yeeros Shop.

The shop isn't anything special, I start to panic is this the home of the best yerros in Sydney? Minutes later with a plate of odd looking chips and a lamb yeeros in my hands I take a bite, my mind begins to relax yes I think I have found the right place.
