Lunar New Year Festival, Parramatta















To celebrate the Lunar New Year, last Friday Centenary Square in Parramatta was transformed into a busy, bustling square full of people, food and entertainment.

Recognising the year of the monkey, there was an appearance by Curious George who was very popular with the kids.

In an area called 'Lunar Land' there was plenty of free entertainment for the little ones. Gabby had fun decorating a Curious George mask and painting a paper lantern.

For the foodies there were several food stalls including the popular Lux Bite pop up stall which sold out in an hour. The lines were long, so I stuck to one stall selling Korean food. I ordered a Teriyaki chicken skewer and Korean dumplings which were filled with pork, vegetables and noodles. To drink I had a sugar cane and lime juice icy drink which was perfecting given the balmy weather.

Overall it was an enjoyable night.

The Vintage Pantry, Pitt Town











About an hour northwest of Sydney, in the Hawkesbury town of Pitt Town you will find The Vintage Pantry.

As the name suggest the cafe's decor is vintage/shabby chic and the mood is warm and inviting.

To entertain the little ones there are colouring pencils and paper and for the adults there is a selection of magazines, best read curled up on one of the lounges.

We visited the cafe early in the week when it wasn't too busy and its clientele was mainly locals.

Ordering from the lunch menu we ordered a beef burger with chips, a mixed kebab plate, nuggets and chips and milk shakes.

The beef burger was huge, a little messy to eat due to it's size it was everything you would expect from a traditional burger. The thick cut chips came with a side of tomato sauce and aioli, the perfect combination  for chips!

The mixed plate contained three different kebabs, fatoush salad, chips, lebanese bread, hummus and garlic sauce, enough to keep one satisfied.

Overall it was a pleasant, filling lunch. If you are ever in the area check it out for either breakfast, lunch, morning or afternoon tea!

Valentine's Day biscuits










Yup it's almost that time of the year again, love it or hate it, it's Valentine's Day.

If your sweetheart has a sweet tooth than why not whip him or her up a batch of these melt in your mouth biscuits straight from the heart!

I used a popular shortbread recipe from the Thermomix recipe community website, alternatively any other shortbread recipe can be used.

Once the dough had been kneaded I rolled it 8mm thick. Using a heart shaped cutter, I placed each heart onto a lined tray.

I than decorated half the biscuits with white chocolate rounds and the other half with pink chocolate balls. After 20 minutes in the oven I removed the biscuits and allowed them to cool before serving.

Australia Day - Baked, non baked and store bought morning tea

Sorry for the late post, with a newborn and a toddler spare time is precious and it's only now a week later that I have found some time to share what I baked, didn't bake and bought for an Australia Day themed morning tea with the family.

Starting with the baked, I baked two small damper loaves filled with feta, parmesan and spinach. Using the Thermomix to knead the dough, as I can't stand doing it by hand, I split the dough into two and rolled it to resemble a rough looking square. Next I crumbled Danish feta, sprinkled parmesan cheese and placed a handful of baby spinach down the centre of the square. I than folded the sides over the filling and molded it into a loaf. After 25 minutes in a hot oven it was ready. Served warm with butter it didn't last long!

For the non baked component I made Lamington 'Raw' Bliss balls. I found the recipe on the Australian Thermomix recipe community website (link below). Made two days in advance and stored in the fridge prior to serving the balls remained fresh and moist. Filled with dates, nuts, sultanas and coconut I didn't feel guilty popping these balls into my mouth!

Last but not least, for the store bought, not bothered making lamingtons from scratch which can be time consuming and messy I bought a packet of lamingtons filled with jam. Costing $3.50 for six (Aldi) they were a bargain!
